Gavin Samamé

I began volunteering during the winter of my freshman year at Person to Person, a local food and clothing bank, often working with clients in the pantry. Since then I have acquired a leadership position helping in volunteer management. Person to Person is a wonderful organization as they distribute mass amounts of living essentials; however one thing I noticed was the lack of learning materials. Myself being heavily passionate about innovation, especially in the aviation industry, I was curious how I could make a difference and implement this in my very own organization. I am engaged in the complex engineering aspects of aviation and the amazing things that could be accomplished through creativity and optimism. I believe that creativity is sparked at a young age and is essential to broadening horizons and having an open mind. As co-founder of Le’go of Your Legos, I want to spark the same passion and curiosity in children by helping schools incorporate a basic stem education with the donated Legos. While Legos, unfortunately, can’t teach kids the fundamentals of aircraft hydraulics, they are perfect for creating passion and wonder while being fun. In taking this leadership role, I will do what it takes for our impact to be felt, and I assure you we will continue to for many years to come.

I began my volunteering journey in the spring of 8th grade, co-founding a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Organic Barrow. My brother and I executed a variety of tasks in order to deliver 20 wheelbarrows with 6 freshly-planted vegetables each to 20 recipients in Stamford Ct and neighboring areas. In the fall of my freshman year of high school, I joined Building One Community in Stamford, and the Darien Youth Community Fund. At B1C, I teach English using my knowledge of Spanish and French to immigrants and residents living nearby. At TYCF, I received a broader understanding about different social and economic issues, and how different non-profits approach helping with those issues. As the co-founder of Le’go of Your Legos, I aim to use my knowledge of non-profit organizations and resources to execute our vision. After all Legos are awesome and a great tool to help kids develop their creativity and motor skills.
